Copyright is one part of intellectual property that has the broadest scope of protected objects, as it includes science, art, and literature, which also encompasses computer programs. The development of the creative economy, which is one of Indonesia's and various countries' mainstays, and the rapid advancement of information and communication technology necessitate the renewal of the Copyright Law, considering that Copyright is the most important basis of the national creative economy. With a Copyright Law that meets the elements of protection and development of the creative economy, it is hoped that the contribution of the Copyright and Related Rights sector to the national economy can be more optimal.
- Copyright is the exclusive right of the creator that arises automatically based on the declarative principle after a creation is realized in a tangible form without reducing the limitations in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.
- Related Rights are rights related to Copyright which are exclusive rights for performers, phonogram producers, or broadcasting institutions.
Protection Period for Creations
- Copyright Protection: Creator's Lifetime + 70 Years.
- Computer Programs: 50 years from the first publication.
- Performers: 50 years from the first performance.
- Record Producers: 50 years from the fixation of the Creation.
- Broadcasting Institutions: 20 years from the first broadcast.
- Books, computer programs, pamphlets, the layout of published written works, and all other written works;
- Lectures, speeches, and other similar creations;
- Teaching aids made for educational and scientific purposes;
- Songs or music with or without lyrics;
- Drama or musical drama, dance, choreography, puppetry, and pantomime;
- Visual arts in all forms such as painting, drawing, sculpture, calligraphy, carving, sculpture, collage, and applied arts;
- Architecture;
- Maps;
- Batik Art;
- Photography;
- Translations, interpretations, adaptations, anthologies, and other works resulting from the transformation of forms.
